Did we all see it coming? The answer is a resounding, yes.
Did we expect Rafa to get us out of it in the 10 games he had? Very possibly half of us did - including myself.
So what went wrong?
Well for me, I have to hold my hands up and say that I supported what Ashley was doing. Not everything of course - but a lot of his financial structure for the club, to rid it of debt and set us up for the future, was a positive.
I still believe he had the club's best interests in his heart, as well as, his other business interests in his mind.
Note how I used heart and mind because this is where the problems lie.
He is a great businessman, and obviously a ruthless one, in striking whilst the iron is hot, in respect of his major business interests alone.
His problem was in buying a football club of the calibre of Newcastle United, with its history and fan base; not to mention the fanatical support of actually living and breathing Newcastle United.
He ran it with his heart. A sort of business structure, but essentially a rich mans dream club - to sort of be a fan of - as well as own it. He tried to play with the big boys, on the cheap, and trusted too many people who knew very little, to over-see the running of the club.
The sickening thing is, he used his head, then his heart, then his head and then his heart again. Basically, he never learned from his mistakes; like a kid going back to see if the fire would burn his fingers again. Ashley did it.
He then took a back seat. He sort of pretended that he'd left the club in the hands of those who are running it right now, whilst he just remained a fan/owner with no more input other than that. Sort of like owning vintage cars that are garaged and cleaned by employees, yet rarely seen by himself, except to have a glance over them before melting into the distance, hoping the employees will not scratch the cars or abuse their position in letting the cars depreciate in value and looks.
This is what he's allowed to happen to our team once again! Back to square one with relegation and having to clear out the deadwood.
I'm really sick of it! I'm sick, like all fans are for this club - that we have to go through this again.
I keep wondering, what's in store for us from this point on? Are we going to clear out the garbage and make sure we bring in dedicated professionals that will be proud to bring this club back into the top flight 'fight', and continue to add in players of the quality and strength of position that we clearly need and have needed this season?
Hindsight's a wonderful thing and when I look back at pre-season and the way we played in America - I should have heard the alarm bells ringing from that point on. I should have seen McClaren's appointment as being a massive mistake, especially when he bottled taking us on when offered the first time.
I should have seen through his silly smirking grin when another defeat came about, with his silly excuses, telling us that the team played fantastic, when clearly they did anything but.
I'm sick of sugar coating stuff for the happenings at this club. I'm sick of being positive for the sake of it. For the hope of something positive, instead of seeing the holes starting to sink it, and realising that I'm trying to bail it out with words of a positive nature, telling all and sundry that everything will be fine, whilst I'm bailing out the ship with a toast topper can.
We now have to re-start. We need a full on clear out and have to start a brand new chapter. We have to start from the bottom and work our way up, without any stalling.
We need to bring in the loaned out players who show promise and keep those that showed fight for us. Players like Townsend and Lascelles, etc.
Naturally we will lose some players that would be best kept - assuming Rafa leaves. If he doesn't leave and fancies the fight, then who knows?
In a weird way I'm sort of looking forward to having, hopefully just one, season in the championship. I'm pining too see a Newcastle United team appear to look like they're looking for success, even if it's a stab at winning a lesser league title.
I'm looking forward to - maybe - a cup fight.
I'm a bit gutted, I won't lie, but this club needs cleaning. It needs some tender loving care mixed with large dollops of respect, throughout, by all, for all.
It has to pull and push in the right directions from this point on - without weak excuses for failure to do so.
Mike Ashley: If you are married to this club as you say you are, then you have one option left to save your marriage. You start to grab it by the scruff of the neck - plus all of the inept people running it for you and treat it for the what it's worth - which means you accept nothing less than a full on forward - working and thinking by ALL who aid in running this magnificent club.
You have the fans who have shown disgust at you but more to the point, they've shown immense loyalty to the club. It's time to stand up and be counted and not weasel out of being a part of it and passing the buck for all wrongdoings.
Just like a marriage, you have to right the wrongs and make sure they do not happen again - or at least do everything in your power to ensure you've done your utmost to arrest any potential downfalls.
If you can't do that, then you and the club should divorce and allow someone to take over who can promise all of that - because this club, and fans, have had enough mud slung at it, and them, for far too long, by all and sundry. We've been fobbed off and lied to, then pacified for a short time, before having it all done again and setting us up for ridicule by anyone who wished/wishes to have a dig, with the media fronting the queue.
Forward thinking from this point on, Ashley - or simply eff off!
